New Song: "When The Giants Are Gone"
When Tom Petty died in 2017 it hit me like a brick. So many others followed in the 2010s and 20s. Cohen, Prince, Prine, Aretha, Chuck, Lightfoot ... I feel blessed to have grown up during a time when the music giants of the 60s and 70s were alive and working. And I'm wondering what it will feel like when they all have gone. Are we going to end up listening to AI muzak? Or will we pick up a guitar, sit down at the pianio and create new music, based on what we learned from the Greats? Those questions inspired "When the giants are gone". No tree stands forever, but the forest remains.
Als Tom Petty 2017 starb, traf es mich wie ein Schlag. In den 2010er und 20er Jahren folgten so viele weitere. Cohen, Prince, Prine, Aretha, Chuck, Lightfoot ...
Ich schätze mich glücklich, in einer Zeit aufgewachsen zu sein, in der die Musikgiganten der 60er und 70er Jahre lebten und arbeiteten. Und ich frage mich, wie es sich anfühlen wird, wenn sie alle nicht mehr da sind. Werden wir irgendwann alle AI Musak hören? Oder werden wir die Gitarre in die Hand nehmen, uns ans Klavier setzen und neue Musik schreiben, basierend auf dem, was wir von den Großen gelernt haben?
Diese Fragen inspirierten "When the giants are gone". Kein Baum steht für immer, aber der Wald bleibt.
The song was very much influenced by Folk Town, a livestream music celebration program where many of us singer songwriters get together to celebrate the giants of folk, rock, country and pop. And that's where I connected with Nashville songwriter, singer, producer and multi instrumentalist Dave Coleman. I'm grateful for all the work and talent he put into the production of the song! After I had sent him my vocals, acoustic guitarts and piano, Dave added electric guitars, drums, bass and more piano. Dave also brought Irish fiddler Claire Shirey on board who plays a wonderful part on the track. Thank you Dave and Shirley! On a recent tour in Northern Germany I met with my friend Rico Burnecki, a great photographer from Rostock, and we had a spontanous photo session in a local record shop. I thought this photo as perfect as a cover. Danke Rico!
Der Song wurde stark von Folk Town beeinflusst, einer Livestream-Musikveranstaltung, bei der viele von uns Singer-Songwritern zusammenkommen, um die Giganten des Folk, Rock, Country und Pop zu feiern. Und hier kam ich mit dem Nashville-Songwriter, Sänger, Produzenten und Multiinstrumentalisten Dave Coleman in Kontakt. Ich bin dankbar für all sein Talent und dier Arbeit, die er in die Produktion des Songs gesteckt hat! Nachdem ich ihm Gesangspuren, akustische Gitarren und Klavieraufnahmen geschickt hatte, nahm er in seinem Studio dazu E-Gitarren, Bass, Schlagzeug und mehr Klavier auf. Dave hat auch die irische Geigerin Claire Shirey mit an Bord geholt, die auf dem Track wunderbar Geige spielt.
